Suggestion - Dark Elf Dwelling

Gloweye April 25, 2015 User blog:Gloweye

This is my suggestion for a Dark Elf Dwelling. I feel a dwelling would be a better implementation than a race, since they are few in numbers after the Mending, and the population growth is slow. I tried to stay as true as possible to the original lore, and I believe that lore isn't a problem. Anyway, I'm curious to hear all your thoughts on this!

I've decided to make it in the shape of what we consider a normal dwelling page here on the Wiki, for the ease of overview.

I've published an Alpha Version of the mod: Steam

Feel free to give it a try and let me know what you think. It should be bugfree, but i'm primarily interested in balance judgement of people actually playing it. The models aren't implemented yet, so it sometimes looks a bit awkward, and i'm using some placeholder icons.

Dark Elves

Dark Elf(Gloweye)

Not all Dark Elves attended the mending; a small group was led away by a Dark Elf known as Hester. Away from the other elves, they preserved their Dark Elf mentality and managed to coexist. Few in number and slow in growth as all elves, individual prowess on the battlefield became very important to the Dark Elves, hence they are all highly skilled in combat.

The Dark Elves hold onto their past prominent place in the Cult of Storms, cherishing the lore and deepening their understanding of the magic used by the ancient Stormlords, the most magically skilled among them have taken this title for themselves. However, none of the Dark Elves shun the more mundane ways to kill members of other races; they are no less skilled with Poisons than they were in the days when Meandor still led them.

Unlike those who participated in the Mending, the Dark Elves see the subterranean world as their haven of safety, refusing to build their homes on the surface where any can see them.

Producible Units

'It was dark in the caves; and I never felt comfortable anyway underground. None of us could see in the dark, but even if we could have, we'd have never seen them coming. The Dark Elven Bladedancers were as silent as the night, and completely hidden until they ambushed our party. Some I'd known were foolish enough to fight, but this is useless against these woman who endured all those long year of training, which made them faster than snakes, striking twice whereas a normal man might be able to strike once. After disposing of any resistance, they took us captive. Some were killed despite their surrender, and the only reason I wasn't might have been because they thought it funny when I tripped and fell backwards.'

'When the Bladedancers took us in, we passed some guards in the dark. The Dark Elf Sharpshooters were as hidden as the bladedancers in the caves they call their home, and their bows resemble those of their Mended brethren. However, these train even harder, bringing out their natural affinity for the bow even more. When one of my party tried to flee, the Bladedancers didn't even try to catch him - and arrows found his back, and from the way I saw him twitch when he died, I could see the arrows were poisoned.'

'When we arrived in the Dark Elven Cave that is their home, we were questioned by a Matriarch. These creatures resemble huge black spiders, but instead of head they have a female torso, arms and head, clad in a wide, dark cloak. I have read of them in the past, but I've not seen any before, and I have no wish to again. They are every bit as powerful as the stories tell, and completely devoid of any mercy. We were asked how we found those caves, and if we hadn't managed to convince them it was by accident, I doubt we'd have been kept alive. Even so, we only survived because it might have been more effort to kill us than to leave us be.'

'During my stay with the Elves of the Night, I encountered some Executioners. These elite cavalry units use glowing, red swords, which are bound to them by the darkest magic, of which I'd wish it was forgotten long ago. Their armor is finely crafted, not weighting down their black steeds, but protecting them as good as the finest plate from the Commonwealth. Even through the caves, I've seen the gallop faster than most horses could in the bright daylight. Despite not seeing them, you always know when they are near, as the shadows darken in their presence.'

'There's something comforting about Dark Elf Executioners. You always know if they're there. The same cannot be said for the Shades that roam the Dark Elven Caves. I know for a fact that they're technically members of the Dark Elven race, but they cannot be touched unless they want you to. Even though they usually use doorways like other people, I've seen them walk straight through walls, as well as just vanishing or appearing out of thin air. I fear for the more civilized lands should these beings ever find reason to roam there.'

'Only once have I glimpsed a Stormlord, when the Dark Elves were defending their homes from some Undead Archons that were running rampant. They are true masters of their magic. First of all they can cast lightning bolts much like those of the Storm Sisters, but they are also able to somehow conjure a lightning strike at enormous distance - while being underground! Their very presence energizes the very air around them, causing random lighting bolts to softly crackle around their surroundings. They can extend this aura, affecting the Dark Elves fighting on the frontlines, charging their weapons and stunning those who strike them. The Archon Revenants didn't stand a chance.'
